The Great Wallpaper Debate

Who's that donut? It's ME, honey boo boo child.

This week we hired an arborist to cut down the critter access to the attic, and then we stripped some more wallpaper. We'll get to the wallpaper in a second, but first, a before and after of our awesome Chestnut tree (AKA Critter Speedway 2011).

Before.

After (taken from a different angle, on a different day, with a different camera)

Dramatic transformation! Or actually, he did such a good job that you can barely tell. I love that tree, and I'm glad it still looks like a great climbing tree.

And now, a wallpaper tour of our house.

This cheese slicer makes for the PERFECT wallpaper removal tool. It has been very nice when removing wallpaper such as this:

What's under those green and white flowers? It's HATS! And a wallpaper that someone painted over in a dark pink. Oh YES, honey.

Hey, where'd you come from, lil' vines? Oh, deep inside the coat closet.

^ This is what's in the dining room. Below, what's in the living room.

Cute? Maybe! Should we keep them?

And this (above) is the wallpaper in the laundry room, which is staying because I don't have to worry about finding furniture to go with it.

So, should we keep the wallpaper in the dining room and living room? It goes with the house, and maintains the character of the house. Also, we wouldn't have to strip the walls or re-paint. On the other hand, it's kind of ugly and our furniture would clash pretty big time, especially in the living room. We can't take down one room, because then the other room would look weird, I think. What should we do?

For all of you playing along at home, I will post pictures of our progress this last weekend (courtesy of my mom, the historian) in a later post.

  1. I would keep it. They have a lot of color happening, so it won't be too hard to find furniture that works well. (That dining room one is especially pretty!)

  2. In the picture of the cheese slicer/wallpaper remover, is that Mac dashing through the dining room or a ghost??? Maybe it's a ghost dog.

  7. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see this blog! I love how you're reshaping the old place into a work of art. It deserves it. Somewhere around here I have an old newspaper clipping with a quote from the people who bought our other old house on F Street. I think I'll hunt for it and write about it on my blog. Thanks so much for sharing your photos. My kids are going to flip out!
